Static Electricity

Below is a picture of my daughter from last fall. She briefly turned her soccer goal into a fort/tent with a blanket on top, and (as you can see) some serious static electricity was produced!

After reading the short article AND contemplating some of your own experiences with static electricity, answer the following questions in a comment on this blog post:

  1. What causes "Static Electricity"?
  2. What does static electricity have to do with chemistry, atoms, and an atom's structure?

Hola, estudiantes. I'm under-the-weather today, but I hope to be back tomorrow. There are some pretty cool static electricity demonstrations that I should be able to show you at that time.
As for today, be sure to be complete with the answers you provide in your blog comment. The "Isotopes and Ions Smart Games" that you play later should be good preparation for the short standard check we'll have tomorrow. Have fun!

Also stay tuned for a video on the Human Bohr Models we created last week. I put the finishing touches on it this weekend.

Static electricity has to do with electrons moving to a different object to have the object have a negative charge and the object that lost the electrons to be positive. the positive and the negative attract.

1. Friction cause static electricity
2. Static Electricity is created when the atoms of one object rub against the the atoms of another object. Chemistry deals with elements, which contain atoms, therefore relating to static electricity and atoms. In the atom's structure, the electrons and protons become temporarily unequal so the atom/s produce a charge, therefore creating Static Electricity.

1.static electricity is caused by friction and the dryness of the room. Also since the electrons leave the atom becomes a postively charged ion with negative ions on the brush opposites attract.
2.static electicity has to do with atoms since when the brush gains electrons it becomes negatively charged IONS and since the hair loses electrons it becomes positive IONS then the charged atoms attract since that what opposites do creating attracted atoms(static).Static is connected to chemistry by atoms since static is basicly charged atoms or ions.

1. Static electricity is caused by friction, when two objects or surfaces rub against eachother.

2. every atom has positivly charged protons and neutral neutrons in the nucleus. Electrons (negitivly charged)are found on the outer shell/circles of the atom. and when two objects rub together one electon is lost which would make the atom positive and that electron would go to the other objects atom which would make that atom a negitivly charged atom and that would make the objects atract and create static electriciy.

Static electricity is caused by friction.

When static electricity takes place, the electrons and protons have moved to one object or the other. The positively and negitivy charged things attract to each other. It has an electric charge for a few seconds before the atoms fix themselves and go back to normal.

2- Static electricity is caused by electrons (and friction) there for it's deals with the charge of atoms. As for the structure it takes or gives the electrons that are in levels around the nucleus i'm guessing that has something to do with the structure.

Static electricity is caused when objects become temporarily charged. Atoms are made of electrons, neutrons, and protons. The amount of positive protons should equal the amount of negative electrons.
