  2. Why?

It lit up because it reacted with heat and oxygen. It also burned you.

When the magnesium hit the heat it started a spark that was very very bright. It happened because the magnesium combined with oxygen and heat and that´s what happens when it does that.

the magnesium started to get really bright and burn into something else.
Cause the heat from the bunsion burner started it to get bright

Mikayla P. said...

what happened was when you turned the bunson burner on it first turned to fire then it turned to a bright light because it is like iron. once it burned and turned to light it become magnezium oxide.

The mag. bonded chemically with oxygen to form a compound.
The oxygen and mag. bonded because they reacted chemically and they want a filled outer level.

Christian H said...

The Magnesium turned into Magnesium Oxide. Because when the Magnesium was burning it was chemically reacting with the Oxygen in the air.

Andy W said...

The magnesium caught on fire and made a bright light. Then the magnesium reacted with the oxygen and made magnesium oxide. The heat was an activation energy to made the reaction happen.

Magnesium reacted with the Oxygen and the heat to create a compound. Magnesium gave Oxygen 2 of their electrons to fill Oxygens outer energy level.

1.IT got really bright

2. magnesium gave 2 electron to oxygen. because it wanted to get filled on the outside level.

The magnesium was set on fire and after a little bit it was burning into a bright light, that turned into dust. It turned into dust because a chemical changed happened.

1. When the magnesium coil was heated, it reacted with the oxygen in the air and it had made magnesium oxide. A very bright light had then appeared after it was heated.

2. The valence electrons in the Magnesium element had moved to the Oxygen element so it could fill the outer energy levels of Oxygen. Oxygen had a -2 ion while Magnesium had a +2 ion.

1.When heated, the magnesium reacted with the oxygen in the room and made magnesium oxide.
2. The valence electrons moved to the opposite element to fill the outer energy levels. The magnesium gave oxygen 2 electrons and both filled outer energy levels. Oxygen=-2 magnesium=+2

The magnesium ha s chemically combined with the oxygen in the air to create magnesium oxide. it happened because the vailince electrons in Mg (2) go to oxygen, which needs two to complete its outer layer.

The magnesium burned and made a bright light.
Because the magnesium gave 2 vailence electrons to oxygen

When the magnesium reached the heat from the bunsen burner, it reacted with it light up, and then turned into magnesium oxide. This happened because when the magnesium was combined with the oxygen from the heat, they reacted together and made a new substance, magnesium oxide.

1. It burned and became a really bright light.

2. Magnesium gave the oxygen in the air 2 electrons. To make Magnesium a +2 ion and to make oxygen a -2 ion.

1.the Mg reacted with the oxygen and the heat, a chemical reaction accured. Not a flame but something else, made a bright light.

2. Because when the Mg reacted with the heat and oxygen a chemical reaction happened and Mg oxide was made

Seth Huntimer said...

1. The Magnesium burned with the energy of the fire and kept burning with oxygen when it connected to the magnesium.

2.The energy of the fire burned the oxygen and made the magnesium connect to the oxygen in the air making magnesium oxide and also connected to the nitrogen making some magnesium nitride (not as much

1. the magnesium made a bright light and made magnesium oxide

2. because the magnesium mixed with the oxygen. but it made a bright light cause of the heat

michael leffring said...

the mg mixed with the oxygen in the air and the fire from boncin burner and make a compound of mg oxidide

Alexis K said...

The magnesium reacted with the oxygen and made a bright light. It did that because both elements wanted to get rid of their valence electrons in the outer level, or make the level full.

Anonymous said...

the mg reacted to the oxygen. because it even out it non needed electrons.

Robin Hatcher said...

magneisium was chemically combined, and it was using fire to oxygen. It lit a really bright light.

it happend because the elements were combined

Luke Kennelly said...

when the heat helped active the chemical change in the magnisum it flared like a firework. the magniseum had given away two elctrons and oxygen took the two so they had even amounts of outer levels

Maia G. said...

The magnessium reacted with oxygen and the electrons combine with each other to complete the outer level with made the chemical reaction happen.

Lexis J. said...

When Mr. Hoegh put the Magnesium over the flame. It sparked a lite up. Because the Magnesium and Oxygen mixed together, making it spark and light up.

Morgan Johnson (MOJO) said...

The magnesium turned into a bright light, because It wanted to have its outer level full, and it had two extra electrons and the oxygen atom needed two electrons, so magnesium gave them to oxygen, a perfect match you could say. :)

SydneyR said...

1) a chemical reaction
2) It happened, because magnesium wants to get rid of 2 electrons and oxygen wants 2 electrons, so they exchange them and then together make a bright light when combined.

Bailey Gadbois said...

The magnesium strip was chemically reacted with the oxygen and then changed the way it looked! why? it chemically reacted!

Maddie R. said...

Oxygen reacted with the Magenisum. And they traded electrons.

Hanah W. said...

1. a chemical reaction
2. the magnesium and the ooxygen fit good together so they made sparks that u use in sparklers and fire works. oxygen has 6 electrons on the outer level and magnesium has 2, well since the outer level can only have 8, 2+6=8, so the magnesium electrons went over to the oxygen and they mad a whole so magnesium has +2 electrons and -2 is oxygen since it gained 2 eelectrons and magnesium lost 2

Jaiden W said...

1. the magnesium was chemically combined, using fire, to oxygen. the chemical reaction gave off a bright, and i mean bright, light.
2. all elements want to fill up their outer most level. magnesium gave two electrons to oxygen, making both have their outermost level filled up. then magnesium is a positive ion and oxygen is a negative ion. opposites attract.

Anonymous said...

it lights up because they combine

emma snyder said...

The magnesium turned into a bright light because the magnesium and Oxgen kinda mixed and it made a light. they were a perfect match.
