.......I want to be an astronaut. In the last several decades, many boys and girls in this country have said those words. Would you really like to be an astronaut?
I'd like to revisit some questions that we thought, wrote, and talked about yesterday. Imagine that you're an astronaut in the 1960s, like John Glenn in the video clip below. What kind of emotions would you feel as you put on the spacesuit? How about as you board a tiny capsule that happens to be sitting on a 6.5 million pound, longer-than-a-football-field rocket? How about when you break free of Earth's gravity and view the Earth from above?
- What would it be like to be an astronaut during those tense (yet thrilling) moments?
- In your experiences, is there anything that you might be able to compare it to?
- Why would the title of the When We Left Earth episode (from which this video clip came from) be "Ordinary Supermen"?

My heart would be beating as fast at it can go!.
I would be very nervous and scary, just thinking about going in to space and landing on the moon for the first time. With that all the bad things that could go wrong would be flying through my head.
But at the same time it would be exciting to go to space and see how it really looks. And going to discover something that no one else had seen, would amazing.
1. I would be really excited, yet nervous. To think that I would actually be going out of Earth's atmosphere and into space would be so exciting. I think i would mostly be curious, to see what Earth looks like from above, and what space looks like.
2. Nothing like that. I could only compare that to making 2 game winning free throws with 9 seconds left in basketball. I was nervous because there was only 9 seconds left and we were losing. I needed to make them. I was also excited that I even had that opportunity. But 2 free throws doesnt compare at all to going into space.
3. Because astronauts are just like super men. They are leaving Earth. They are heroes.
1) Personally, I believe that it would have been terrifying. And excitinggg.
2) YES!!!! Going on top of the Stratosphere in Las Vegas to go on the three rides, X-Scream, Big-Shot, and Insanity. AMAZING but SOO scary at the same time.
3) They were normal people, everyday people that were pretty smart; but still.. they were the first, and thats pretty super.
1. I think it would be very exciting, but I would also be nervous because if one little thing went wrong, i could die.
2. The closest thing i can think of is the roller coaster California Screamin in Disney Land. There are a bunch of upside down loops and corkscrew turns while you are moving very fast.
3. Because they are ordinary people but they are going into space which would make them super.

1) I would be extermely nervous, and extremely excited. Could you imagine waiting in a rocket for 2 hours. I would be so anxious I think I would spring!
1. It would be scary, thinking about the things that could go wrong. But also exciting because you are going to go into outerspace!!
2. The excited yet nervous feeling would kind of feel like what I feel like before a cross-country meet, because you are all by yourself and you have to set your own pace.
3. Because they are ordinary men (they don't have super powers) but they are still going into space, like they are flying.
1. Scared but proud to be one of the first people to be on the moon.
2. Nothing would compare to sitting staight up to the sky and launching off in a rocket and then being in there for couple hours and feeling no gravity and floating in mid air.
3. Their the first people to be on the moon.
1.to be an astronaut were you may die in the tests or some faulty error would be scary and i would leave the ship
2.i think i could compare the tense and scaryness of being an astronuat to looking down the grand canyon.
3.well they are flying from earth and going on to the moon
1. It would be scary and anxious because it's easy to say that you're going to do things, but it's another thing to actually do it.
2. Lift off could be similar to being in a plane, which I have been in many, many times.
3. Something never done before successfully done by normal citizens.
1) I would be completely terrified. I would never be able to do it. For the astronauts though, it would be thrilling, and probaly one of hthe best moments in their lives.
2)I can't think of anything I could complare it to.
3)Because he is an ordinary guy, who is given the opportunity to do something spectacular, something, that superman would do.
I would be very scared to be up there, especially being the first person ever to visit the moon. I think it would be very exciting and thrilling to be the first human, but very scary because it is the first time and something could go very wrong and even though they had alot of training, nobody knew excactly what was gonna happen 'cause it was never done before.
1. it would be amazing, with an adrenaline rush and everything. they would never feel more alive
2. when i went to camp teepeetonka a few summers ago, there was a day when we went and climbed a rock wall about 50 ft high. there were rocks that twisted around and made it hard to stay on. when i reached the top i looked down (big mistake) but i felt like i'd accomplished something
3. they're ordinary supermen because they were ordinary people who did something amazing.
1) If I was one of those astronauts,. I would've been terrified. I would be thinking of everything that could go wrong with the machines, or how many people were watching me. I would also be really excited though. It would be a once in a lifetime experience to go somewhere humans have never visited.
2)Everyone has had exciting experiences, but I don't think I could compare anything on earth to something as great as going to the moon.
3) I think that is the title because these astronauts were everyday people. They didn't know they'd be going to the moon when they grew up, and they don't have superpowers. However, they set a great example for so many people, and future generations will still be learning about them.

I think that if I was an astronaut in those days, I would have wet my pants. There is no way I would ever launch off in a rocket, into outer space. NO way.
It would be very hard to be an astronaut in those moments. I think taht if I was one of them, I would feel very pressured, and I would want to impress people, but also I would want to discover new things about the solar system.
I think I could compare it to riding a horse for the first time.. As you walk up to your horse, you look up at the HUGE animal standing before you. Then when you are in the saddle. You look at the ground, and realize that you are like.. WAY above the ground, and you are scared to fall off, and you don't want to get hurt.. but at the same time, you get excited, and your stomach has a whole bunch of butterflies in it. And then you sit there, ready for your first ride. :)
The title would be "Ordinary Supermen".. I think because like, the astronauts are our heroes in a way, and they fly (in rocket ships of course) and they are just people that children look up to. That is what I think...
I wouldnt want to be an astronaut. I'm closterfobic. I there is no way id ever be able to be in that big heavy suit for a long period of time. Id be to affraid to even get in the rocket. I cant think of anything that could compare to a moment like that. sure ive had moments of being scared, nervious, excited, thrilled, and shocked all at one time, but not at that level. In my situation if I messed up it wouldn't have been too big of a deal but the people in the rocket ship if they made just one mistake it might cost them not only there life but other peoples lifes to. So much valuable time and money would be lost if they made a mistake. They are refurred to as "ordinary" because they get up everyday, and go to work, and help support there family. they are refurred to as "supermen" because of the stuff they so. They are so brave and daring. They do things that have changed are world and the way we see our solar system. So they are called "Ordinary Supermen".
1.It would be sooo awesome, i mean you get to be one of the first people on the moon!!!
2.Yes, my first ever football champiionship game
3.Because they were just ordinary guys going into space to do something amazing like be the first man on the moon
1. I think that as an astronaut in the 1960's, I would have been very nervous because the whole world would have been watching. However, upon completion of the mission, I would have felt overjoyed and proud as I would have represented my country in the space race and would have given humanity a major step forward in space travel.
2. I think that being an astronaut ini the 1960's would be similar to, but on a much larger scale than, performing in a basketball game. I say this because not only are your teammates (crewmates) relying on you but every fan (person) in the world is also cheering you on and willing to critisize you if you fail.
3.I think that these men are considered "ordinary supermen" because they were accomoplishing tasks that other people 15 years before had thought impossible.
1. Id be so nervous and worried but also excited. There's so many things that could go wrong but you could be you could be the first men on Earth.
2. i dont think nothing ive done even close compares to what they did.
3. Because they left Earth and going to explore someplace we've never been
i think that it would be intense and scary all at the same time. because your going to be one of the first people to walk on the moon, and you could die from it too.
i think it would be like kicking a 50 yard field goal to win the superbowl
i think they named it that because they left earth to go to the moon for a few days
- i think it would be fun to be an astronaut.. but it doesn't really interest me that much . it would be really scarry getting in the space ship knowing that you may never see the people you love again .
-i think being an stronaut would kind of compair to being on a roller coster . not sure how.. but when i think of it i think space ship .
-the video didn't show up ? so i'm not sure what i'm supposed to be doing?
It would be legit and very inteense going up to space having no idea what could happen.
no nothing could compare to something like that
its just people but there brave enough to go up and risk every thing.
-I think it would be scary and exciting. Because i would want to be safe but i would want to see space and stuff
-Being in an airplane
-Because they did things that most people might not do
1) It would've been exhilarating. You'd be neverous and scared but at the same time thrilled for this new expireince. The best.
2) I could probably relate it to riding my very first rollercoaster.
3) It would be "Ordinary Supermen" because just like Superman they flew through the sky, into the universe.
I think it would be scary to be an astranaut in these times. I mean no one would have been to the moon. It would cool too. you would be famous. you would be national heros and possibly recognized by the whole world.
That would be so crazy!! i would be so nervous that i would puke!!! i dont know of anything that i can compare it to that i've done it's too crazy. The name of the video is ordinary superman because the guy was just a normal guy without superpowers and he went to the moon!! how intense
1. I think it would be really cool to be an astronaut through the tense moments.
2. Going on a ride at el parque de attraciones. I stood up and spun around in a circle really fast.
3. I think it is because it is very super to be an astronaut.
1. i think that it would be be axanising.
2. no i dont think so there was anything in my life that could compare.
3.Because the are ordinary humans but at the same time they are supermen becuase the are going to the moon .
1.it would be kind of exciting to be a astronout because no one has been on the moon or where ever i am traveling to
2.to me it would be like i was on the kamikazi at the fair and it would be fun and scary casue what if the ride broke
3. because to them it seems very ordinary but yet to us they are supermen
and fyi jackson lounsbery copied my idea of being on a fair ride that is plagerism...
1.I think it would be very exciting, but at the same time, i might have second thoughts, and end up not doing it!
2.Probably. Everything in my life would remind me of all the good times i've had and the rest of my life's adventure to come, and all of that would be at risk.
3.They were kind of heros in a way, because they descovered a place no one has been to, and get information to inform everyone.
I think taht being an astronaut would be an inspiring courier. It would be so cool, because you would go places that people have never gone before. It would be so amazing.
So like when you are looking down on the earth it would be so tiny.I dont think you would be able to compare any past experiences with it.
Probably because people were inspired by, and looked up to them.Just like superman.
I suppose none of us could really say what it would have been like to have been one of those astronauts, as we have never actually experienced it. Sometimes I think we can almost imagine, but it isn't quite the same.
The closest thing I have ever felt would be when my parents and I were in the Lake District in England. We walked across a mountain-side, parts of which were only rocks--no path. It was scary, because one misstep and you could fall to your death, but thrilling, because what if you survived? Think of what a story it would be then.
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure which "superhero" Superman is. Ive heard of him, but I was always more of a Disney "princesses" kind of girl. I believe Superman could fly, and in a way, the astronauts were "flying." I don't know. In a way, they had superpowers. I mean, who else could say they had walked on the moon? Superman, as a hero, fought for the common good. Think of the scientific knowledge that could come from an experience such as they had. I guess that they were ordinary people doing an unordinary thing.
I honestly think that if I were an astronaut and I was in one of those tense, thrilling moments I would hate my job and quit as soon as I got back to earth.
I was in the talent show my 7th grade year and before my first performance I felt like I was going to throw up, I would probablly feel like that as an astronaut.
Because people looked up to them, yet they were normal people with no super powers.
1. I think it would be awesome to be an astronaut when you break through the atmoshpere and see the Earth from above. It would also be really cool to be on a completley different planet and spend some time there just looking at it. For me, it would be extremely nerve racking and scary when you are first taking off and entering the Earths atmoshpere for landing.
2. I really dont think i could compare anything in my life to the moments the astronauts experience in space.
3. Because in the time of when it took off, everybody wanted to be an astronaut just like everyone wanting to be superman. Also it takes more guts to go into space then superman needed to fight his evil villains.
I think It would have been exciting but scary too. For technology to be not that advanced but also if we made it would be cool to say "I've been to the moon."
Bungy Jumping.
It would be Ordinary Supermen because because they are Ordinary people doing super things...I guess.
I think that in the moments leading up to take-off would be very exciting. It would also be scary because no one else had been to the moon yet. This is not a very good experience but I was on a bungee cord chair thing with my sister. We didnt know what to expect as we were super high above ground. It could be kind of like the astronauts because they probably didnt know what was quite going to happen either. I think the reason they named this "Ordinary Supermen" was because the astrnauts are ordinary peoople doind extrodinary things like superman.
1. I think an astronaut would feel excited, yet scared. This trip isn't the average plane trip, this is a trip to space. I think it would be an amazing sight to actually see earth from space, or walk on the moon.
2. I could compare this to the time I went on the ride at Disney World, where you got to simulate the space shuttle, and well yeah it speaks for itself on how fun it is!
3. I think it would be "Ordinary Supermen" because the astronauts are in a way flying through space like superman can. Also astronauts are brave like superman in doing things that ordinary people never would.
Christa G<--
it would be scary to not know about what could happen to you and if all te equiptment was prepared right!but also exciting knowing your one of the first to be to space!
in my expericne i could compare it to a ride at amusment parks(kansas city,missiouri-worlds of fun)called the rip cord. its scary, pull a cord and dropo and not know if the cord will break but at the same time you get the butterflies of it being thrilling:D
i dont know.
I would like to be an astrounaut. Despite the tense moments, I think it would be quite exciting.I don't think that anything could be as cool as going to the moon. It's better than going to every place on the earth. I don't think I have been as nervous as I would if I were to take off into space, to land on the moon. I think it is called Ordinary Supermen, because they are just ordinary people who haven't accomplished or done anything astounding, or have any special thing, going to the moon. And, going to the moon is a pretty big thing to accomplish in life. If I were given the chance to go to the moon, I don't really know if I would take it. It would take a lot of thinking...
I think that in last few moments before you would take off into space I would feel very vrey scared. I would be thinking about all of the friends and family that i may never be able to see agian if anything, even the smallest of things, went wrong. I think that this kind of experience would never be able to compare to anything that I have experienced so far in my life. I think that the reason that this video clip was called "Oridinary Superman" because the astronauts are just normal people that have had the chance to be supermen, to fly through space faster than we can even imagine. They are truely ordinary supermen.
---->IsAbEl ScHmIt :))
I think it would be really scarey and nerve racking. I dont know if i would be able to go through with it knowing that there is a strong possibility that I could die.
I think that I would compare it to me; sitting on a bom thats about to go off, but you dont know if you will fly off the explosive part, or get sucked inside.
Because back in their day, it was so extrordinary! But today we r like oh thats just cool. Nothing more, nothing less, just cool. I think this quote suits my explanation well: My dad was born just after the Right Brothers and he couldnt beleive that I went to the moon, but my son, he's 5 and he thinks it's no big deal.
1. I would be scared out of my mind!!! i think that it would be freaking out!!
2. i think that it would be compared to playing your friends in baseball or basketball. it would be nervracking because you would want to perform good in front of them. and not make a mistake.
3. i think that they would be referred to as ordinary supermen because these men were doing things that people thought were impossible 50 years ago. that is like us thinking that we could travel at the speed of light!!
