Seriously.... the year's over already?

Tomorrow is the last day of school. For you Crazy 8s out there, this is your second-to-last day at Memorial. Has it sunk in yet? Are you excited? Worried? Happy? Sad?

Hopefully you're looking forward, at least in some degree, to the summer break. It will bring a new routine, and will be followed by another transition (high school). You will face many challenges, but that is a great thing. It gives you a chance to rise to the occasion, solve problems, and learn how much you're capable of achieving. I am looking forward to seeing what all of you do in the future because you all have many talents that are worth sharing (whether that's in the classroom, field, stage, court, concert hall, or all of those places). I will be your fan.

Feel free to visit the old alma mater. Feel free to leave comments/memories on our blog -- it should be here to stay. Good luck!

I have to say, the best time I had in science this year was probably... when we were doing Human Bohr Models and Allen was told to run faster and his feet basically jumped out from under him, and on camera it looked like you tripped him. (: That was honestly the funniest thing I saw in this class. I loved this school year, Mr. Hoegh you're thee best science teacher.! xD have fun with the future 8th graders! Ohh mann..

To be honest, I am somewhat excited and somewhat sad of leaving the Crazy 8s. For me, 8th grade has been the best year! I really liked the Crazy 8 olympics. I'm going to really miss the crazy 8s. Thanks for the best year!!!!!

Yesterday.. Mr. Hoegh wanted to know if a balloon would pop like it did without water.

His problem was.. he wanted to know if the balloon would still pop if it was filled with water.

His research was.. his prior knowledge of knowing that an empty balloon would pop if it didn't have anything..

so he hypothesized that.. the balloon would NOT pop because of the convection in the water in the balloon.

He experimented with the water and the nonwater balloons by... placing a balloon without water over the fire first, and he did the same with the water-balloon.

He noticed that the balloon popped when it had no water in it.. He noticed with the balloon filled with water, that it did not pop. Instead the colder water replaced the warmer water underneath it, so the balloon wouldn't pop as long as the water was doing that.

He realized that his hypothesis was correct, the empty balloon DID pop, and the WATER FILLED balloon did NOT pop.

yyyaaaayyyyyy!!!!!!! that was pretty awesome by the way...

I'm kinda sad that this is our last year here. But also excited because we are going to a new school and off the bigger and better (well not THAT much better). But I am definetly looking forward to the summer break, I can't wait to not have any homework for at least a little while. But guess what?? Just yesterday I found out that the Roosevelt girls track coach is my 'kiddy corner' neighbor!!!! That wasn't as off topic as you think, because I'm talking about participating in school sports next year. I also hope to participate in cross-country like I did this year. Also, I'm doing orchestra next year. So I am excited for all the things to do.
Thank you very much Mr. Hoegh for teaching everything you can in the most fun and interesting way possible! I learned a lot in your class this year. Thanks

-Sydney

ok so this is what i think.... I can't wait for summer... i can hang out with my friends and not worry about any homework... but the sad part is.. is that i will really miss this school... the teachers and also my other friends that i have in sixth and seventh grade. this school year has gone by way to fast. it just amazes me. I am so not ready to start high school because that means driving and driving just makes me nervous and it also means getting a job and jobs are just to time consuming when during the summer you could be at wild water west and thunder road and what not... so yah there are some of my thoughts about summer the school year and everything in between.... have a great summer mr.hoegh!

science was fun this year. i thought the exploding cans were pretty cool. first we had a problem: how do you crush a can? then we did some reasearch: and figugured out that warm air collaspes.. Hypotosis: so we guessed if we heated up the can it and put something over it the car would collaps. expiriment: the can collapsesd! anlis:the can collapsed conlusion: our hypothosis was right!

I can't wait for summer/highschool, however I would miss middle school because it's the last year and I may never be back at MMS. I'm happy and sad and excited because memories were made at MMS, however more memories will be made at highschool and summer 2010. So all in all it's been a good year and things in 8th grade was good. And hopefully things will be nifty in highschool.

During the school year we get into a routine. We learn our classes, and our teachers, and our locker combinations. We make friends, and have fun, and we get used to it. Especially as 8th graders, because we know this school after being here for two years. But after tomorrow, that all changes. Next year we won't be coming back. Some of the friends we've made won't be there next year, and the routine we've gotten into will have to change.
That doesn't mean we aren't looking forward to summer. It's an escape from school, and work. It's an escape from life. But, like this year, it won't last forever. Next year, we will wake up, summer will end, and we will be starting high school. We will have the next four years to learn new routines, make new friends, but we will never forget this year, these teachers, these routines. They will be with us forever, because even though we move on, we never forget. And we hope you never forget us either.

Purpose: To see if the balloon will explode with water in it.

Hypothesis: i dont think the balloon will explode. i believe there will be to much moisture.

Research: Not really any research.

Experiment: We lit a candle, Put some water in the balloon, blew it up and held it over the candle.

Results: The balloon didn't pop. only the surface exposed to the smoke and flame turned black.

Conclusion: the balloon would not pop if it contained water. on the area of the balloon exposed to the balloon would turn black.

Ach, why does it seem like all of
this happened in just two monthes,
it should feel like an eternity.
In some ways I am happy and sad, sad because I will not be able to see some of my favorite teachers, happy because I will be moving on to something bigger, it all seems contradictory that I am happy yet sadly I am leaving some people behind. Some things need be sacreficed for life to continue and prosper. (I did not get this from a fortune cookie)

The gps activity

1.Our problem we had to identify was we had to find all the hidden spots

2.We had to get to know how to work the gps device and learn our longitude and latitude

3.We had to form on hypothosis on were we would think the spots would be hidden at

4.Then we had to actually go out and use are guesses to find the locations

5.Then we had to compare our guesses to our results and we were mostly right on most of them

6.And our conclusion was that this activity was harder then we thought.
